OTHER: Simba is now ready to find his forever home. He arrived in the UK at the end of 2023 and has been working with Ollie, who is the trainer at kennels, to help him become better prepared for life in a home.
Simba has made huge improvements since his time with us. He was showing some resource guarding over toys but he had now learnt to trade toys for food and/or by playing the ‘two toy’ game. This will need to be continued in his forever home.
Simba's association to food is so much better too. The empty bowl game has worked wonders for this and helped him to be calmer and relax at food times.
His click to calm training is really working for him and it can be applied to lots of situations in his life as it will help him to disengage from situations he might find stimulating and give cause to react.
Simba would love to find a home in a peaceful village or countryside environment to reduce potential outside stimuli.
He will need to be the only dog, at least initially, so that he can get the time and attention he needs to settle in and form bonds with his new family members. However, he has walked well with another female dog. He was excited to see her and responded well to Mini asking for space.
Ollie will meet at kennels with Simba's potential new owners to explain and demonstrate the training that Simba has learnt and a full in to home training plan will be provided.
Simba is a very clever, fun and intelligent dog with so much love to give. His new owners must understand the trauma of his previous life, treat him fairly and respond with compassion when he may not know how to adapt to our way of living.
With a little bit of consistency in his training applied with kindness Simba will flourish into a well rounded dog and make a great companion.
